After a period of almost 30 years, the Bill is likely to go a substantial change after the passage of the Bill. The Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Mr. Paswan has affirmed the likely-hood of passage of this bill in the winter session of the Parliament.
The Bill was first introduced in the Loksabha on 10th August, 2015 which was immediately on 26 August, 2015 referred to the Standing Committee. The Standing Committee submitted its report on 25 August, 2016 with recommendation for some substantial changes. Now, the Minister is likely to move the note to ensure that the Bill is cleared in this session. However, with the issue of Demonetization clouding the Parliament, it is to be seen whether the bill is passed before 16th December.
